Today, the McKinney House Museum is meticulously furnished to reflect the period between 1908 and 1920, allowing visitors to step back in time and experience the domestic ambiance of that era. Each room is adorned with authentic artifacts and décor, providing a tangible connection to the past. The museum serves as the headquarters for the La Mesa History Center, a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the area's heritage. In addition to the house itself, the adjacent Palermo Building houses extensive archives, including photographs, documents, and oral histories that chronicle the broader history of La Mesa and its neighboring communities. Next to the Palermo Building is a small display structure that allows the Center to share collection objects too large to display in other ways.
