50 Facts about the La Mesa History Center #46: Fundraising
The La Mesa History Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt, public benefit, educational California corporation. We are funded funded by annual membership dues, contributions, bequests and memorials, grants and fundraising events.
Over our 50 year history, these fundraising events have taken many forms. For many of our early years, the primary source of funding came from the La Mesa Quilters, a group of our members who would create and sell quilted items to support the organization. Each year the group would make a quilt for the Ice Cream Social raffle. The Quilters also sold baby quilts, aprons, pillows, crocheted and embroidered pieces and other items at the Ice cream Social, Christmas Open House, Oktoberfest and the Grossmont Bazaar. (See Fun Fact #11 for more about the La Mesa Quilters!).
Beyond just quilts, raffles at various events have also been a source of funding. And this year the LMHC has combined our raffle with our annual Home Tour. For the past 19 years, the Home Tours have been the primary funding event for the LMHC.
The La Mesa History Center has also benefited from some truly generous donors. Currently we have received a $7,500 matching grant from the Ripples 4 Ever Fund. Please consider participating in our Giving Tuesday event on December 2nd to reach this matching amount to complete our landscape project. Full details will be posted tomorrow.
